The Food Issue

Yesterday I wrote a whole blog about why we haven't had a lot of local food, and also about architecture of the Moscow. Well today we ate and romped and roamed further than we have so far. 

Welcome my friends to the food issue.

One stop shop snack shack

Today we set our sights on finding Moscow's very own Ice Sculpture Museum. Located outside of the city center (See map of Moscow here). If you look at the map on the link, our hostel is in the smallest circle in the middle. Today we traveled in between the small middle circle (the city center) to the second circle by the river. We were able to ride more trains and see more of the beautiful metro. Each station and stop looks a little different. This is super helpful for me since I'm a visual learner and can retrace my steps by the look of each stop. Here are a few pictures of one stops.

At the top of every lighted dome there are detailed tiled mosaics. Most are nationalistic, but the detail and the colors were awesome.

Remember in the last post I talked about the buildings that we have been seeing. How there are not many new buildings. Well, today I eat my words. As Shai and I stepped out of the metro we were greeted by these buildings.

That lit up part on the building on the right, is a huge T.V.  Woahs.

We set off in search of the Ice Sculpture Museum. On the way we had a cold picnic next to a half frozen river, found a park with tons of seriously bundled babies, an ice rink (which we almost decided to skate on, but opted out in fear of sprained ankles and broken bones), a work out station, and a street cafe.

Russia is extra special for Shai because Christmas is never ending. Lights and music everywhere. He squeals on the regular. 

Finally we found some ice sculptures. It wasn't in a museum but in the park, and it was exciting all the same.

After our misdirection of the Ice Sculpture Museum we decided we needed warm food and drinks, stat. We took the metro to yet another part of Moscow and found the best place ever to thaw out

It was hard to leave the pocket palace also known as Stolle Cafe. When we did we left one food warmth for another. A sweet little Ukrainian restaurant within walking distance from our hostel
